Historical Review

Apapuerta Café has its roots in the deep connection that Dr. Maribel Rivera established with the Jutiapa area during her social service before graduating as a Doctor of Medicine and Surgery. Over the years, in 2015, considering the idea of her retirement, she decided to acquire land in this area. Instead of leaving it unused, she decided to take advantage of its potential and started growing coffee, starting with the catuai variety. Seeing that it was blessed land for producing quality coffee, Apapuerta Café emerged over the years.

The Apapuerta Café brand originated in 2019 under the leadership of Lic. Mario Mejía, the youngest son of Dr. Rivera. Mario is a genuine enthusiast and passionate about specialty coffee, whose love for this beverage led him to Barcelona to pursue studies. During his time in the city, he broadened his horizons and acquired new knowledge about coffee processing and marketing. His enriching experience abroad provided innovative ideas and fresh perspectives that he would later apply at Apapuerta Café.

His vision aims to become a benchmark for excellence in specialty coffee, focusing on highlighting the traceability of each origin where quality coffee is produced, starting with the renowned coffee route in Honduras. Our goal is to join forces with other countries, creating a unique combination of flavors, cultures, and passion in each cup.

The story behind the Apapuerta Café brand name reflects a deep connection with our audience; the location of our lands in Obraje is marked by the majestic Apapuerta mountain, where "Apa" means stone, thus together it is "Puerta de la Piedra," a term originated from the extinct Matagalpa language. For us, Apapuerta Café represents that gateway to experiences combining love for the land, nature, local development, recognition, and reflection of the passion for coffee.
